CapeVerde
Provisional results of Cape Verde’s presidential election place Jorge Carlos Fonseca on the lead with 73 percent of the votes.
The candidate of the Movement for Democracy party is widely ahead of his rivals Albertino Graca and Joquim Monteiro who have obtained 23 and 3 percent of the votes respectively.
The provisional results equally indicate that the abstention rate so far stands at about 60 percent.
The high abstention rate is against the wishes of the three candidates who had multiplied calls for a higher participation rate as they feared that voters could feel reluctant after participating in three elections since the beginning of the year.
Jorge Carlos Fonseca, fourth president of Cape Verde was first elected in 2011 with about 54 percent of the votes.
